Dear readers, 

In my quest to procrastinate from University work, I have resulted to doing one of these weird questionnaire things. I figured it was time to give out a bit more information about me, because I don't often write about myself in my blog. Anyway without further ado, here is a very general idea about what I like in guys. Oh my. 

1. Do you need him/ her to be good looking?

Not necessarily, but I'd like to be somewhat attracted to him.

Yes.

3. Preferred age?

Several years older than me at minimum.

4. Preferred height?

Between 5'10-6'1.

5. How about sense of humor?

Yes.

6. How about piercings?

Don't mind.

7. Accepts you for who you are?

Yes, but I wouldn't mind a guy who challenges me to be a better person.

No.

9. Mushy or no?

At appropriate times. But when you're in love, all that kind of stuff is pretty awesome.

Thinner, leaner.

I have a tendency to date the latter half of these options.

Short and clean cut.

Flesh.

Yes.

No.

Yes, but he needs to be able to hold his liquor.

If that means humble, sure.

real music.

I live and breathe music, and there is barely a single moment that I am without it.

I want to reflect on what I will term as 'real music.' I'm talking about the songs that make sense. The songs with lyrics that hit you in the heart, and pull you into a world that you didn't imagine possible. Unfortunately this quality lacks in the music that is released today. Sometimes I hear what is on the radio and I am absolutely baffled, if not insulted, at the commercialised gibberish that people try to pass off as 'songs.' Consequently, I believe that we should all take a moment to search up the old tracks that made impacts on us in the past. Let's pick the best one, and then share it on our Facebook walls. Let's remind the world of what songs should be like.

In my case, I've chosen the acoustic version of 'Smooth,' by Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas. This song is so ridiculously timeless and sexy, and it creates a whole new meaning to the the term 'real music.' Enjoy!

The 10 stereotypes that you will see in clubs.

I have frequented many clubs in my time, and have met some seriously awesome and interesting people. However, life is about seeing both the good and the bad. Here is a list of the ten (strange) stereotypes that will probably be in every club you go to. If you don't see all of them, you will notice at least half of the list. I've made them specific to whether they can be applied to girls, guys or both. PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT EVERYONE IS A STEREOTYPE!! Enjoy :-)

GIRLS

1.  The "I'm too hot for you" girls

These girls have probably spent 5 hours getting ready. They have false eyelashes on, and their dresses look like their second skin. In fact, I'm not even sure if they wear dresses..perhaps those are belts wrapped around their waists. They think that every guy in the club is going to hit on them. If they could, they would carry around portable hairdryers to make their hair fly back as they walk.

2. The bathroom screamers

I don't know why, but there are always girls screaming in the bathroom. About everything. So when they start screaming, just shriek at the top of your voice and don't stop until they do. On that note, some of them are actually really nice. Even if make-up is melting off your face, they will keep telling you that you are "SOOOO PRETTY."

3. The straight lesbians

Some straight girls will discover a new found love for each other for just one night. This is mostly because they know males love it.

GUYS

4. The "I'm (mostly) too hot for you" guys

These guys go to the gym. Actually no, they live in the gym. They wear tight shirts that show their rippling muscles. They have impeccably styled hair. They will either be really nice or more aloof than your local neighbourhood detective.

5. The wolfpack of bros

You will always see a group of bros standing around the dance floor, ready to prey. These bros really are bros. They will come up to you and tell you all about their best friend, and they will ask you to feel his chest.


6. The one crazy shuffler

Just get out of the way.

GENERAL

7. The "sexy" dancers

This usually applies to girls, but it could go the other way. These people think that they are in a music video, but in actual fact they look like geese swimming in a pond.

8. The one person trying to get everyone to drink


This person is probably the most fun of the stereotypes. If you can handle him or her, just comply. It will make them very happy.

9. The texter


He or she will dance miserably (just ask them to take lessons from the crazy shuffler guy). They will reply to every single text on their phone.. Perhaps they should have just stayed at home.

10. The lone shark


Usually a guy standing alone. The lone shark may or may not lurk in the shadows.. This person is either bored, looking around for his or her friends, drunk or ready to pick someone up. I have recorded a quick video on how to deal with one of these creatures..

(Melbourne) Australia, this is why I adore you

Oh no she didn't....oh YES SHE DID. You guys should have guessed that this post was going to appear sooner or later.

So I moved to Melbourne in February 2011, and I am still in love with this place. Why? Glad you asked!

1. The fact that Australia has 4 seasons. I lived in South East Asia all my life, and we had two seasons: rain or sunshine. I didn't really travel much, so the idea of winter always excited me. However, I will admit that me waking up curled into a little ball (with popsicles instead of toes) has lost some of its initial fervour!
2. The accent. Friends, you DEFINITELY saw this one coming. Maybe there's something wrong with me because so many people disagree, but I just find it kind of sexy and calm. And strange. But still really nice!
3. The FRIENDLINESS.
4. The chilled-ness with the work-life balance. Like oh yeah it's 5pm, LETS PARTY MATE.
5. My friends (you guys know who you are)
6. My university. God I love that place so much. The buildings, the beauty, the atmosphere... UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE, REPRESENT.
7. The chocolate. Chocolate in this country tastes better than chocolate from South East Asia. 
8. The fact that people are just willing to do things differently. I mean we went to celebrate Norway Day yesterday evening (thanks Johan, Fride, Stine, Anna)..you'd never get something like that in Singapore. 
9. The diversity, and how people seem to be so open to culture. 
10.  I also cannot understand how the minimum wage here is so high. Hey, no complaints.. 

my top 5 kitchen disasters

This one is for the people who love to ask me, 'Hey Nadia, did you burn anything today?' Try not to be too amused.

I also decided that I wanted to post something light hearted because one of my last posts ('Respect thy friends') was deep..

Try not to be too horrified when you read the list down there. I have to let you know though, my cooking skills have improved this year! Here we go!

1. Partially melting my frying stick.
2. Igniting a strand of pasta.
3. Burning the kitchen cabinet. I was much younger (13/14 years old?) and I had this history project due in. I was meant to write some old ancient letter, so I was burning the edges of my sheet of paper to make it look older. I toppled the candle and the flames licked the cupboard counter top, and someone had to throw water on it from the garden. A for effort though!
4. Shattering my microwave plate into 10 pieces. I accidentally left the lasagna in there for too long. The next thing I knew, there was a BANG(E.G an explosion) and I lived without a microwave for half a year.
5. Setting the chopping board on fire. I left the stove to do something for two seconds and came back to find the board engulfed in orange. I didn't realize that the flames would get so big!

And there you have it! I assure you I have learnt MANY LESSONS.

the things that fascinate me

There are a few fascinating things that still and will probably always throw me off guard (some neutrally, some positively and some negatively).

1. Time difference
2. Seasonal weather changes. Seriously amazing. 
3. Blogs/twitter/fb accounts that direct statuses at other people: 'i can't believe you would do this..i miss you..bla bla bla.'  I never understood the concept of telling the whole world about your personal problems.
4. The feeling of falling in love with a song
5. Why people wear colored contacts. Imagine how I would look with blue eyes? Ridiculous is the word.
6. Why humans always seem to love to leave everything till the last minute...and every single time we say the same thing: "I've learnt my lesson, never doing this again!" Yeah that never works out. 
7. The fine line between love and lust
8. The dynamic behind bad customer service
9. The Facebook revolution. 

and finally, the number one thing that fascinates me...
   
     10. Accents.

ohhh sometimes i get a good feeling!

I am in such a good mood! No, a cute boy did not text me. No, I did not become an overnight celebrity.  I am in a good mood because things are happening, and life is getting clearer, and opportunities are blooming.

Today my friend Jane (Woo) said this to me, and I'm going to quote it word for word (ish) because I found it very inspiring.

'You don't often believe in yourself as much as you should. My dad is a firm believer (of the power of the mind), he says you need to imagine you're already successful.  In a nutshell, you have to keep control of your thoughts. It's not just wanting the right things, but believing you already have it all.'

In other words, have faith in yourself. If you want to make something happen, die trying. As Churchill once said, 'never,never, never give up.'

You know sometimes I spend my time getting worked up over the things that I've either lost or can't have. I guess it's a very natural (human) trait to desire more, but at the end of the day, always look at the bigger picture. Life is a trade off. You win some, you lose some. In my case, I am lucky to have the close friends who have stood by me through and through. The ones who have given me such support, who have contributed to this unbelievable excitement that I'm feeling right now. So thank you guys, all my freakin love to you for bringing me here.

bring on melbourne 2012!!

I didn't think I would be, but I am pretty damn excited to head back to Melbourne!! Obviously there will be aspects of S.E. Asia that I will miss, family/ close friends/clubbing/ general cheapness. However life is all about trade offs, you can't have it all. There are so many great things about Aussie that make up for the people that I will miss dearly.

Last semester..for some unknown reason, I completely and utterly lost my focus.  Never in my life had I been that demotivated with my studies, and the mediocre grades that I received from my exams did not surprise me. Till this day I have no idea what happened to me, or why I turned into the worlds greatest sloth. But now, I feel that the crazy, extremely ambitious, NERDY Nadia is back. Everything happens for a reason- I needed a wake up call. I am so eager to take away the average-ness of last semester and replace it with 100% effort and passion.
